Beirut, 18 November 2018 (UN Information Centre in Beirut) — The United Nations Information Centre in Beirut is holding a press conference on Monday 19 November 2018 at 10 AM to distribute UN Certificates to public schools that took part in an outreach activity, entitled “UN Aware – Phase II” on the work and priorities of the United Nations. This activity was launched for the second time in a row at the beginning of the academic year 2017-2018, in collaboration with UNESCO Regional Bureau for Education in the Arab States, World Youth Alliance-Middle East (WYAME) non-governmental organization and Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO (LNCU). The speakers at the press conference, which will be held at the UNESCO Beirut office, facing Camille Chamoun Sports City in Bir Hassan, Beirut, are: Director General of Education at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in Lebanon Fadi Yarak, Director of UNESCO’s Regional Office for Education in the Arab States Hamed Al Hammami, Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO Secretary-General Tala Zein, and World Youth Alliance Middle East Regional Director Mary- Joe Alavalas. The conference includes the distribution of “UN Aware” Certificates to 8 public schools from UNESCO ASPnet and from outside the network, namely: Lycée officiel secondaire mixte Dr. Hassan Saab -Beirut; Zahia Kaddoura Official Secondary School for girls -Beirut; Lycée public Jawdat Rostom Haydar Baalbeck; Ecole secondaire officielle Amchit; Hussein Massoud Public Secondary School Bchamoun; Fadel Al Moukaddem public high school for girls- Tripoli; Lycée officiel des filles Nabatieh; Maghdouche Official High School. This initiative, which aims at educating high-school students on the work and priorities of the UN, was implemented in its first phase during the academic year 2016-2017. It includes lectures, field activities about 3 UN days and designing and implementing activities for a non-governmental association linked to a cause, or one of the Sustainable Development Goals. |
