PRESS RELEASE – BDR Directory
BDR Directory (short for Beirut Disaster Relief Directory) is an all-in-one app to find all the services, donation channels and volunteering opportunities needed to rebuild Beirut.
Our mission is to contribute in the relief of Lebanon by providing a user-friendly, accessible and free online platform that facilitates connections between those looking for help and those offering it.
There are 4 tabs available in the app. On the Directory Tab, the user can browse and add job ads in various categories some of which include electricians, glass suppliers, engineers and doctors. On the Volunteer Tab, the user can browse volunteering opportunities with verified NGOs in addition to adding their own or browsing volunteer calls by other app users. On the Donate Tab, the user can access a list of verified NGOs that are accepting donations to rebuild the city. On the About Us Tab, the user can find links to our social media outlets, our privacy policy and an email if they need to contact us.
THE STORY BEHIND BDR DIRECTORY ̋
The Beirut Blast has undoubtedly caused drastic damages to the the country, both physically and mentally. The night of the bomb, our team roamed the streets of Beirut in shock – how could something like this happen to our city? How could something like this be fixed?
Distressed and anxious, we opened our various social media platforms to see if our friends were safe. As it turned out, it seemed as though the city was beyond repair. But there was a ray of hope – only minutes after the incident, people took it upon themselves to provide help in any way possible: collecting food donations, mental health help, and cleaning debris.
Social media platforms were flooded with such accounts dedicated to offering specific services and we recognised a problem, inefficiency. It was hard to navigate through social media to find exactly what one wanted. So we thought to ourselves: Would it not be better to centralise all the help into one platform on which anyone could find or add any services linked to rebuilding our broken city?
WHO ARE WE? ̋
We are a group of 4 Lebanese undergraduate students who thought better than leaving our country behind in its hardest times. We refuse to believe that all hope is lost. Our group is divided into 2 individuals working on marketing & PR and 2 individuals working on app development. We believe that technology is the most viable option to facilitate the communication needed to rebuild our country.
