In addition to its jewelry and timepiece design and production, Mouawad also manufactures rough diamonds as a Diamond Trading Company (DTC) Sightholder, a privilege that grants it a direct and unique access to conflict-free rough diamonds and gemstones, sourced and purchased in countries that are full participants in the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme.
Diamonds and gemology have always been a passion for the Mouawads, and besides being renowned for fine jewelry and timepieces, the Mouawad family has acquired over the years some of the largest and rarest diamonds in the world, and many of these historic gems carry Mouawad as part of their designated name. Mouawad has been honored by the Guinness World Records five times, the most recent of which being for the Flower of Eternity Jewelry Coffer ― the most valuable jewelry box in the world (US $3.5M). In 2013 the Mouawad L’Incomparable Diamond Necklace was named as the most valuable necklace in the world (US $55M), featuring the world’s largest internally flawless diamond, the Incomparable Diamond (407.48 carat). In 2011 Guinness awarded Mouawad for creating the most valuable handbag in the world ― the Mouawad 1001 Nights Diamond Purse (US $3.8M). In 2003 the Very Sexy Fantasy Bra received a Guinness for being the most expensive bra ever made (US $11M), and in 1990 a GWR was awarded for the Mouawad Splendor ― the most expensive single pear-shaped diamond in the world at the time (US $12.76M).
