Under the good governance forum, the Observatoire de la fonction publique et de la bonne gouvernance (OFP) of USJ, in partnership with Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS) and in the presence of the Minister of Interior and Municipalities Judge Bassam Mawlawi, is organizing a conference entitled “Elections, the gateway to change and good governance”, on Thursday, December 9, 2021.
The conference will be streaming live via Zoom application and on OFP’s Facebook page and will start off with a question about the possibility to transition into a modern government amidst sectarianism. Then the first session entitled “Parliamentary elections, a democratic act to achieve change and apply good governance” and moderated by the President of OFP Professor Pascal Monin, will discuss environment at the heart of elections, the political aspect in 2022 elections, women as candidates or voters in the elections, a legal perspective into the current elections law and the required criteria for sound parliamentary elections.
As for the second session entitled “Municipal elections, a tool to achieve participation and good governance” and moderated by the journalist and University professor Mr. Charbel Maroun, will discuss participation in municipal work, the role of municipalities in development, administrative decentralization and decentralized cooperation to reinforce municipalities, the political and development aspect in the municipal elections – case study of Jbeil municipality, and modernizing the municipal law.
