Dubai, United Arab Emirates – A top event for the summer calendar, and an opportunity for GCC travellers to get on board with women sporting legends, Geneva is preparing for a double offensive! Two major initiatives for women and sport, supported by public authorities: UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 in Geneva, which will take place in July, and the #ChangeonsLaDonne campaign, which aims to achieve 40% representation of women in sports committees by 2026, as to be hosted by the city this summer.
With nearly 100,000 spectators expected, Geneva is positioning itself as a pillar of UEFA Women’s EURO 2025. As part of this event, the Stade de Genève Foundation has launched a major renovation program, funded by the canton. A budget of CHF 4.1 million will be invested to modernize the infrastructure, not only to meet the high standards of the competition but also to create a welcoming environment for the public.
The City of Geneva is creating a Sports Village on Quai Gustave Ador, through which they’ll organize sports demonstrations, introductions, and meet-and-greets with athletes to promote women’s sports and inspire vocations among younger generations by giving visibility to the champions. Located on Quai Général-Guisan near the Sports Village, a Fan Zone will also welcome the public, who will enjoy free access, from July 2 to 27, 2025, to live broadcasts of matches and entertainment, as well as a catering area, providing plenty of opportunities for things to do and see.
Concrete actions for youth, women, and the Geneva population
The partnership between the WEURO Geneva 2025 Association, which coordinates the event, and the AGS embodies a shared vision: to make this major tournament a catalyst with a lasting impact that goes beyond the field, redefining the standards of women’s sport, both athletically and socially.
Aside from the footy action, visitors can also avail of activities that continuously take place around Lake Geneva, through water sports, a panoramic view of the Jet d’Eau, or a trip onboard the Belle Epoque steamboat for a more traditional sojourn on the lake.
If you prefer dry land, the city’ parks; nestled on the lakeside offer a lovely cool break on hot summer days. Between the lake and the mountains, stroll through the incredible Botanical Garden and then lie down on the grass in the Parc de la Perle du Lac for a relaxing moment by the water. Admire the splendid view of the harbour from the Parc la Grange while enjoying an ice cream before heading to one of the chocolate factories for a tasting experience, a stroll around one of the city’s museums, or taking up a guided tour to truly get behind the history of Geneva. About Geneva Tourism & Conventions Foundation
Tourism in Geneva is managed by the Geneva Tourism & Conventions Foundation (FGT&C). This new entity was created following the integration, on 1 January 2013, of the Geneva Tourism & Conventions Association (GT&C) into the Foundation for Tourism. An executive board of 11 members, mostly representing the sectors active in tourism in Geneva, as well as an advisory board set up by the local authorities, are in charge of ensuring professional corporate governance of the FGT&C. Its tasks include advising the Foundation on the desirable development of tourism policy and assisting it to achieve the objectives set by the law.
