LG Electronics suggests that renewable energy can be a step into a better tomorrow
Imagine a city where everything is connected, where there’s abundance of water and energy production. Where medicine is so advanced and has found ways to cure some of the world’s most challenging diseases. A city where its people make use of data to improve their lives, where everything is connected internally and externally. Where people can manage their tasks remotely. Now, imagine Beirut. A city which is considered to be one of the vibrant metropolises in the Middle Eastern region given the lifestyle that its people animate. However, Beirut still falls short when it comes to basic amenities and procedures that facilitate day to day living. Imagine, all year long, electricity is at the heart of the Lebanese people’s concerns. It is also at the heart of the country’s staggering $80 billion public deficit with the sector costing it $36 billion a year.
This reality can be blamed on political corruption that has for years plagued the sector. With that in mind, we all wonder what the future holds and we all want to ensure that future generations inherit a better world. Much of the efforts have been focused on making tomorrow better by constantly trying to find ways where people can live, work and interact in a future smarter city. Surely, the likes of the gulf countries top Beirut with their wide boulevards and efficient public transit which show how effective future-oriented city planning can be. However, they are as ill-equipped to tackle some of today’s most pressing issues as their planners could not anticipate the crises of the future.
A fine example in the Arab region would be Neom, a future city planning in Saudi Arabia. This future city is a purpose-built, planned community to accommodate a new way of living. Designed to fully integrate energy efficiency with Internet of things (IoT) tech and the latest in smart transportation to create a living experience right out of the future. As we see, humanity continues to push for the creation of better living spaces, and companies like LG are equally alike working on providing cutting-edge technology solutions that can meet the demands of tomorrow’s society. The likes of Neom are intended to tackle a host of looming problems such as over population, water shortage, and climate control as well as social issues.
The accelerating rate of world population growth means more competition for scarce resources, including essentials such as water and energy generation. Even more so, Lebanon’s rising population including refugees, has increased per capita consumption and is threatening the delicate ecological balance and economic development of the country.
Managing Director of LG Levant, Hong Ju Jeon, commented, “By creating smarter, eco-friendly communities, future cities designed with sustainability in mind can reduce their ecological impact and impede the effects of climate change. In order for these new cities to be successful they must combine the best technology with the latest insights of urban planners and LG’s portfolio of advanced solutions are a gateway to the cities of the future.”
The struggle for energy resources has been a recurring element in some of the most critical conflicts of the 21th century. With so much that we take for granted depending on access to reliable energy, it’s easy to understand why the tug-of-war for these finite resources play such a dominant role in geopolitics. But, what if we could change all that? What if energy was free and abundant?
As solar panels become more common, LG is well positioned to meet growing consumer needs in this dynamic marketplace. Award-winning panels such as the LG NeON2 offer a preview of tomorrow’s advanced solar solutions with their massively improved performance and reliability. The adaptability and durability of these panels will make it possible to install them in a variety of locations. Solar roads and buildings constructed using resilient panels offer an interesting preview of these concepts in action.
That is the incredible promise of solar power. In addition to being a fully clean and sustainable energy source, solar energy is powered by the one thing we will never run out of (at least for a few hundred million years) sunlight. While solar’s ability to reduce pollution has long been its primary selling point, few appreciate just how radical the notion of free, unlimited energy is. With this at our disposal, there is no limit to what entrepreneurs and innovators could come up with in the cities of tomorrow. All it takes is solar panels –and California just helped kick start the green revolution by mandating the inclusion of panel sin all new houses.
LG’s rich history of advancing the industry time and time again is a sound proof of the company’s ability to adjust and once again evolve and cater to any advances in society. As LG aims high, it is one of the few companies with the legacy to back up its ambition.
