Under the patronage of Dr. Hussein Hajj Hassan, Minister of Industry, with the presence of Dr. Manal Mousallem, representing Mr. Tarek El Khatib, Minister of Environment, Mr. Jose Louis Vinuesa Santa Maria, Head of Economy and Local Development Section at the European Union and Dr. Cristiano Pasini, UNIDO Regional Representative, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) presented the final results of the SwitchMed MedTEST II project at the Industrial Research Institute.
Since 2015, UNIDO in partnership with the Industrial Research Institute (IRI) and in collaboration with the Ministries of Industries and Environment has been conducting resource efficiency and cleaner production assessments in eight demonstration companies in the food and beverage sector. The assessment enlightened the industrialists on several opportunities to make financial and environmental savings at the level of water, energy and raw materials.
During the ceremony, the results of the assessments were presented: the identified potential savings exceeded 1, 6 Million Euro per year with a pay-back period of less than 1 year.
Furthermore, with the aim of sustaining the project’s initiative, a road-map was presented for up-scaling and mainstreaming resource efficiency and cleaner production for the period of 2018-2020.
The event was followed by a training on industrial resource efficiency for project institutional partners and stakeholders.
