An exhibition offering a fascinating glimpse of urban life, seen through the eyes of 14 exciting, emerging, global artists, opened last night at 3BEIRUT and runs until April 28, 2018.
The opening was held in the presence of the President of the Council of Ministers, H.E Mr. Saad Hariri, the Minister of Culture H.E. Dr. Ghattas Khoury, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry & Agriculture of Beirut & Mount Lebanon Mr. Mohamed Choucair, art collectors and art lovers.
Titled “The Urban Experience” and curated by Hind Ahmad, the exhibition provides an authentic and diverse window on daily life across the globe, including sharp observations and ingenious interpretations of everyday rituals, routines and landmarks.
Snapshots and fleeting moments that have caught the eye of the talented, contemporary painters featured, range from an immediately recognizable slow-paced café-life scene to the equally familiar sight of an over-tired toddler. Much-loved Disney characters, depicted with humor and vibrancy, and iconic fast-food symbols are other sources of inspiration.
The eclectic group of artists whose work features in the exhibition are: Marco Pariani (Italy); Jean-Philippe Duboscq (Belgium); George Morton Clark (UK); Adam Handler (US); Charlie Sickboy (UK); Jonni Cheatwood (Brazil/US); Rob Tucker (New Zealand); Adam Parker Smith (US); Yazan Halwani (Lebanon); Adriana Oliver (Spain); Andres Lozano (Spain); Javier Calleja (Spain); Fadia Ahmad (Lebanon); and Impala (Unknown).
The exhibition will also include an auction on Saturday, April 21, from 6:30 pm to 8:00pm at 3BEIRUT, in which six works by some of the artists listed above will be up for sale. All proceeds from the auction will go to the Children’s Cancer Center of Lebanon.
“The Urban Experience” is initiated by the Artual Gallery, an online virtual gallery, launched in November 2017 by Hind Ahmad, a longstanding art enthusiast who majored in Art and Visual Culture in London, UK, and honed her skills at Christie’s and Victoria Miro Gallery. After exploring and leaving her mark internationally and opening an art gallery in Abidjan, Hind Ahmad’s dream is now focused on her beloved hometown, Beirut.
Ahmad explained that the exhibition “The Urban Experience” has proved to be a satisfying project on many levels, enabling her to provide a group of talented, contemporary artists with an important platform, while giving audiences access to fresh interpretations of global urban life, and also generating a cultural exchange between Western and non-Western societies through art.
The exhibition is organized by Stroberry Advertising and in collaboration with Nadine Saddi Zaccour.
The exhibition is ongoing until Saturday April 28, daily from 12:00 pm till 7:00 pm at 3BEIRUT, Beirut Central District, Omar Daouk Street, Downtown.
