Dubai. Set to steal the show at the 2015 Qatar Motor Show is Porsche’s unrivalled heritage in performance technology as the 911 Targa 4 GTS, Cayenne GTS and Cayenne Turbo S take centre stage. The models represent the Stuttgart-based manufacturer’s latest developments in evolving racing technology from the track to the road.
Taking pole position is the top performer of Porsche’s highest selling model range, the Cayenne Turbo S, which alongside the Cayenne GTS and the 911 Targa 4 GTS will showcase the brand’s outstanding sporting character. The latest Cayenne generation and the classic targa concept become the latest models to take on the iconic GTS badge – which dates back to the renowned 904 Carrera GTS of 1963 – and underline Porsche’s race-track heritage.
Together, the models demonstrate the pinnacle of Porsche’s automotive innovations. All three are true, high-performance sports cars, that seamlessly offer everyday practicality in a manner that has become synonymous with Porsche. From direct fuel injection to Porsche Doppelkupplung double-clutch transmission; active aerodynamics to ceramic brakes, the list of track-to-road technology continues to grow as Porsche’s race-inspired philosophy develops new advancements which permeate through all the brand’s models.
Speaking ahead of the 2015 Qatar Motor Show, Christer Ekberg, Managing Director of Porsche Middle East and Africa FZE, said: “Porsche’s unrivalled racetrack heritage is what sets us apart and allows us to continually push the boundaries of automotive innovation. Motorsport is in the DNA of each one of our cars. Our technology is developed and tested on the track and integrated into our new models to create something quite unique – an everyday sports car.”
He added, “The 911 Targa 4 GTS, Cayenne GTS and Cayenne Turbo S represent a modern embodiment of Porsche’s spirit and I am looking forward to seeing them at the Qatar Motor Show. I hope everyone will be as excited by them as we are.”
Taking the top spot amongst the Cayenne derivatives, the Cayenne Turbo S stands for superior attributes and exclusiveness. Its character is defined by the most powerful engine of the model series, a chassis that scores high in comfort and sportiness as well as an extensive range of features. Although it projects a subtle sporty image, the Cayenne Turbo S displays its extraordinary performance in its distinctive front end and large air intakes. The Cayenne Turbo S accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds – which is 0.4 seconds faster than its predecessor. The vehicle’s top speed is now 284 km/h.
Within the model family, the Cayenne GTS is positioned between the Cayenne S and the Cayenne Turbo, and its dynamic and athletic performance is clear to see at first glance. The Sport Design Package is fitted as standard, and includes more powerfully contoured side sills and wheel arch moldings as well as a Turbo front end. Boasting a 3.6-litre V6 biturbo engine that is configured as a sports engine, and a chassis that makes the GTS the most agile of Cayenne models, it wears its GTS badge with pride and conviction. Not only does the engine contribute to this, so does the Porsche Active Suspension Management system (PASM, standard equipment) with its sporty tuning and ride height lowered by 24 mm with the standard steel suspension – or by 20 mm with the optional air suspension. The Cayenne GTS accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds (5.1 seconds with the optional Sport Chrono Package). These figures are 0.5 and 0.6 seconds faster than in the previous model. The car reaches a top speed of 262 km/h and continues the sporty tradition of the first GTS in Porsche history – the renowned 904 Carrera GTS of 1964.
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 911 Targa, Porsche is offering the design classic as a GTS model for the first time. The concept of the Targa delivers maximum driving enjoyment and safety with all-wheel drive and a rollover protection bar, combined with the fresh air fun of a Targa top that can be stowed fully automatically. Contributing to a boost in driving dynamics is the 430 hp GTS engine together with the standard Sport Chrono package, PASM chassis and 20-inch wheels. The Targa 4 GTS reaches a top speed of over 300 km/h, and with a PDK transmission it completes the sprint from zero to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds. Despite its additional 30 hp of power, its combined fuel consumption – which ranges from 9.2 to 10.0 l/100km, depending on the type of transmission – is exactly the same as for the 911 Targa 4S, underlining Porsche’s philosophy of delivering power without compromising efficiency.
Embodying the pinnacle of automotive innovation the Porsche 911 Targa 4 GTS, Cayenne GTS and Cayenne Turbo S will be on display in hall 5, stand N, Qatar National Convention Centre, from 6th – 10th February 2015.
