On Wednesday the 6th of January, wise men and women followed a star
to Byblos. There they found Alice Eddé’s Epiphany celebrations in full
swing.
To celebrate the Feast of the Kings—the twelfth night after Christmas,
when the three kings visited the baby Jesus with their offerings of gold,
frankincense and myrrh—Alice Eddé delighted visitors to her boutique
with glittering lights, wafts of her exotic home fragrances and plenty of
mirth!
The guests, who came from as far afield as Argentina, enjoyed traditional
French Epiphany treats such as decadent gallette des rois, special crown
sugar cookies and mini Lebanese favorites all washed down with hot
chocolate and glühwein.
But the real highlight of the event was the crown-making competition.
Judged by a panel of prominent Lebanese creatives, the winner was local
talent, young Pierre Saliba. He fashioned a crown featuring a star, a
branch of cranberries and a wide, gold bow.
Although there could only be one winner, all guests got to feel like
royalty—with a regal hand massage, a photo opportunity on the red
carpet, a seat on the throne, and an audience with the queen of Byblos
herself, Madame Alice Eddé.
