The President of the 74th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Tijjani Muhammad-Bande will travel to Kuwait and Qatar from 12 to 16 December 2019, after concluding his participation in the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP25) in Spain.
His visit to Kuwait is at the invitation of the Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait, H.H. Sheikh Sabah Al Khalid Al Hamad Al Sabah.
During the visit, the President is expected to highlight his priorities for the 74th session and the importance of multilateralism and international rules-based system as the most legitimate avenues to address global problems.
The President will also emphasize the need for partnership in the full implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The President of the General Assembly will meet with the Prime Minister of Kuwait and the diplomatic community.
The President will depart Kuwait on Friday to Qatar where he will participate in the Doha Forum.
The President of the General Assembly will deliver a speech in the opening session of the Forum and will, inter alia, participate in the plenary session entitled “Reimagining Governance in a Multipolar World” and a panel on “The United Nations at 75: A Time for Renewal and Innovation”.
The President of the General Assembly will meet H.E. Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Prime Minister of the State of Qatar.
The President will also deliver a lecture at Hamad Bin Khalifa University followed by an interactive discussion with students.
The President of the General Assembly will be accompanied by his Chef de Cabinet H.E. Ms. Mari Skaare, Senior Advisers Noor Alsada and Nabyl Mulachela, Special Assistant of the Chef de Cabinet Mr. Faisal Ibrahim and his Spokesperson Reem Abaza.
Travel costs will be covered by the Trust Fund of the Office of the President of the General Assembly and the Governments of the State of Kuwait and the State of Qatar.
