As part of his continued efforts to develop the role of IRCAD Liban and expand opportunities for surgical education and training in Lebanon, Dr. Antoine Maalouf, President of IRCAD Liban, recently visited IRCAD’s headquarters in Strasbourg, France, where he met with Prof. Jacques Marescaux, founder and President of IRCAD and one of the world’s leading pioneers in minimally invasive surgery and surgical education.
During the meeting, Dr. Maalouf briefed Prof. Marescaux on the latest activities and training programs of IRCAD Liban. Discussions also focused on strengthening cooperation between the Lebanon center and IRCAD’s headquarters in France, with the aim of providing advanced educational and training opportunities for doctors and surgical students in Lebanon.
Among the key initiatives proposed by Dr. Maalouf was the possibility of live broadcasting advanced surgical procedures performed abroad directly to Lebanon, allowing medical and surgical students to follow these operations on large screens, observe the latest surgical techniques in real time, and benefit from the expertise of leading international surgeons without having to leave Lebanon.
The initiative reflects Dr. Maalouf’s commitment to supporting the next generation of surgeons in Lebanon and providing young doctors and students with greater access to IRCAD’s international network and expertise, particularly in the fields of robotic and minimally invasive surgery.
Prof. Marescaux welcomed the proposal and expressed his commitment to exploring it further with Dr. Maalouf, with the aim of turning the initiative into reality in the near future.
If successful, the project could represent another important milestone for IRCAD Liban, bringing world-class surgical expertise closer to Lebanon’s next generation of doctors and surgeons while further strengthening Beirut’s role as a regional center for advanced surgical education and training.
