Beirut, October 8, 2025 – This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, LAU Medical Center-Rizk Hospital is taking a bold step forward in raising awareness with the release of a short emotional film titled “Let’s Talk About It”, created and performed by journalist Rima Karaki.
Far from a conventional awareness message, the film dares to explore breast cancer through the lens of femininity, vulnerability, and emotional strength. It sheds light on the silent struggles women face, the impact on their bodies, their confidence, and their sense of self, while urging them to speak openly, express how they feel, and prioritize screening and early detection.
This touching production marks the first time the subject is tackled in such an intimate and courageous way in Lebanon. It reflects LAU Medical Center-Rizk Hospital’s continuous commitment to healing with compassion, while also highlighting its pioneering role in adopting innovative, creative approaches to public health awareness.
By merging medical credibility with emotional storytelling, the academic medical center continues to lead initiatives that bring science and empathy together in the service of patients and the community.
Following the film’s release, a panel discussion was moderated by Dr. Hadi Ghanem, Clinical Associate Professor, Division Head of Hematology-Oncology and Director, and brought together experts and voices of experience, including Rima Karaki, journalist and creator of the short film; Dr. Christina Khater, Clinical Assistant Professor and Program Director of the Fellowship in Hematology-Oncology; Dr. Tamina Rizk, Clinical Assistant Professor and Chief of Section, Breast Imaging; Dr. Tomy Sawma, Assistant Professor of Practice in Clinical Psychology; and Mrs. Carla Abdo and Mrs. Nadia Khoury, breast cancer survivors.
Together, they will explore the medical, emotional, and social dimensions of breast cancer, reaffirming that healing goes beyond treatment to embrace empathy, dialogue, and self-awareness.
With “Let’s Talk About It”, LAU Medical Center-Rizk Hospital reinforces its mission to empower women through compassion, education, and action, reminding every woman that talking about it can change everything.
