Beirut, November 2021: Despite the serious challenges faced by the healthcare sector in Lebanon, Bellevue Medical Center (BMC) has been officially accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI) for the fourth time, further reaffirming its position at the forefront of excellence in quality care and patient safety. The JCI has long been recognized as a global leader in accreditation and a major driving force behind quality improvement in the healthcare sector.
Mr. Nayef Maalouf, President and Chief Executive Officer at Bellevue, stated: “Achieving the JCI re-accreditation is not only an important milestone for Bellevue Medical Center, but also an accomplishment that rekindles hope for the healthcare sector in the country. This would not have been possible without the collective efforts of every individual and department at the hospital. We are proud of this accreditation and congratulate our physicians, nurses and staff members, whose hard work and dedication have helped us reach this milestone. We continue to hope for a quick and full recovery for our country.”
JCI Surveyor and Team Leader, Mrs. Deborah Lee, addressed the BMC team, stating: “We appreciate your ongoing efforts and persistence to achieving this milestone despite all the difficulties faced, starting with the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, the economic crisis, the devastating explosion on August 4th, 2020, the fuel and gas crisis, and other challenges that continue to affect the Lebanese healthcare sector.” In her word, Lee added that “your leadership will inspire others to follow in your footsteps, and keep providing excellence in patient safety and quality of care on a global level.”
Bellevue Medical Center was first accredited by JCI in October 2012, followed by a second accreditation in September 2015, and a third one in November 2018. Additionally, it is the first Lebanese hospital to be certified gold by Planetree International for its achievements in person-centered care.
