23 February 2023, Aramoun.
Environmental protection is one of the focus points of the EU-funded project “Promoting Community Policing in Lebanon”, implemented by FIIAPP and CIVIPOL
Within the framework of this Project, Terre Liban – Lebanon organized an afforestation action at the Academy of the Internal Security Forces in Aramoun, in partnership with various NGOs including “Ahla Fawda”, “Kouno Maana”, and “Rinad.
This community-engaged environmental day started with the Lebanese and European national anthems, in addition to a selection of national songs performed by the ISF military band led by Colonel Antoine Tohme. A presentation by the President of Terre Liban, Mr. Paul Abi Rashed, on the importance of the trees in combating climate change, limiting the deterioration of biodiversity, achieving food safety, and storing water, followed the opening ceremony.
Engineer Colonel Hajj Shehadeh proceeded to highlight the issue of overhunting as “a main reason for the reproduction of the sandalwood pest threatening the forests of Lebanon”.
Brigadier General Mouin Shehadeh, Commander of the ISF academy and Ms. Ingeborg ZORN, representative of the European Union Delegation, were honored guests of this activity which enjoyed their full support and cooperation.
300 trees were planted on the academy’s campus during this afforestation action, thanks to the collective efforts of 300 participants involving school and university students from several Lebanese regions alongside officers and members of the ISF and environmental NGOs. 200 additional trees were also distributed to the students to plant in their local communities.
The realization and success of this action is owed to the EU-funded Project “Promoting Community Policing in Lebanon” implemented by FIIAPP and CIVIPOL.
