In addition, Nimerology, a luxury homeware label founded by Nour Al Nimer, presents the second edition of ‘I Left my Heart in Mexico’ collection exclusively for Galerie Gabriel et Guillaume.
“For our first exhibition in New York City, right after our participation at the Salon Art + Design fair, we couldn’t have dreamt of a better place than the gorgeous Landmark Penthouse, whose architecture evokes at the same time a French hotel particulier and a roaring twenties glamorous home. The magic of its architecture is the perfect background to mix gracefully our collection of Brazilian modernist furniture, with Italian and French mid-century modern, and unexpected 1980s masterpieces,” – Gabriel et Guillaume

Landmark Penthouse – Steinway Hall
JDS Development Group, Property Markets Group and Spruce Capital Partners announced the reveal of the first New York exhibition of collectible midcentury and contemporary design at 111 West 57th Street. The exhibit is located within the Landmark Penthouse which sits atop Steinway Hall, a historical building that was originally designed by Warren & Wetmore, the firm responsible for some of Manhattan’s most celebrated buildings including Grand Central Terminal. As part of 111 West 57th Street, Steinway Hall has been comprehensively reimaged by SHoP Architects and Studio Sofield to create a limited collection of sprawling, light-filled, pre-war residences that honor the heritage and integrity of one of Midtown’s most cherished landmarks. It sits alongside the second tallest residential building in the Western Hemisphere, which recently topped out at 1,428 feet.
The Landmark Penthouse is a 5,269 sq. ft duplex residence designed for gracious living and entertaining on a grand scale. It features dramatic architectural flourishes, a spectacular great room with a vaulted ceiling, grand upper-level master suite and extensive private terraces on both floors. This three-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bathroom residence is priced at $21,000,000.
“The Landmark Penthouse is a one-of-a-kind residence that perfectly highlights the thoughtful restoration of the pre-war Steinway Hall at 111 West 57th Street. Every aspect of the home has been meticulously composed to showcase the luxurious finishes, gracious layouts, and extraordinary history and provenance of this cherished New York City landmark,” said Amy Williamson, Director of Sales at 111 West 57th Street. “frenchCALIFORNIA and Galerie Gabriel et Guillaume’s exhibit, bring the most incredible furniture and decorative art pieces, both old and new, into the Landmark Penthouse to truly complement the space.”
The penthouse atop Steinway Hall was originally built in 1924 as a home for Frederick T. Steinway and his wife. The couple never lived in the space after zoning laws stipulated it had to be used for commercial purposes. Steinway then decided to make it a radio broadcasting studio for William Paley’s fledgling Columbia Broadcast System, allowing CBS to broadcast concerts from the building’s recital hall. In the 1940s, the penthouse became home to Harris ‘Harry’ Smith Studios, one of the city’s oldest recording studios where jazz legends such as Charlie Parker and Miles Davis recorded. Over the years the studio recorded many other of the world’s greatest vocalists, including Barbra Streisand’s only recording at age 13 in 1955.
“At frenchCALIFORNIA we were thrilled at the opportunity to ignite the spirit of this historic space by connecting it with the great possibilities of modern life in New York. In partnering with Galerie Gabriel et Guillaume we sought to thread incredible museum quality pieces with contemporary designs that would excite the imaginations of the most discerning buyers. We feel the result of this marriage is a landmark reborn at 111 West 57th Street,” – frenchCALIFORNIA.
