An initiative that spreads joy within hospital halls and fosters positivity among patients and visitors
Beirut, Lebanon – April 2026:In a gesture of hope amid the ongoing challenges in Lebanon, and as part of its commitment to holistic patient care, Bellevue Medical Center (BMC) launched the “Colors of Compassion” exhibition, an initiative that highlights art as a space for life and healing. The exhibition underscores the power of colors and creativity to reshape the hospital experience into a more human-centered environment filled with hope and reassurance.
The exhibition brought together children from two art centers, who created paintings reflecting the hospital’s core values, hope, compassion, and joy. Their artwork captured both the innocence of childhood and the depth of emotion, demonstrating how creativity can transform feelings into a vibrant visual language that transcends challenges. The event was attended by the children’s families, representatives from the participating art centers, BMC staff, as well as members of the media and social media influencers. The showcased artworks illustrated how art can serve as a powerful tool for expression, connection, and meaning-making during difficult times.
This initiative carries a meaningful human impact on multiple levels, benefiting children, patients, and the hospital environment alike. It provides children with a safe space to express themselves while nurturing their confidence and imagination. At the same time, it creates a warmer, more comforting atmosphere for patients, helping to reduce stress and support their psychological well-being throughout their healing journey. The initiative also reflects the hospital’s dedication to holistic care, extending beyond medical treatment to encompass emotional and human dimensions, and fostering a more positive healing environment.
The artworks will be displayed across various departments within the hospital for one month, bringing life and tranquility to its corridors, enhancing the experience of patients and visitors, and supporting medical staff in delivering care within a more uplifting environment.
On this occasion, Ms. Remie Maalouf, Executive Director of Bellevue Medical Center, stated: “That is how the Colors of Compassion project was born; to bring the voices of our children their colors and their innocence into the heart of our community here at Bellevue Medical Center. By displaying their artwork along the hospital corridors, each painting becomes more than decoration; it becomes a message. A message of kindness, love, compassion, and peace. A message that gently reaches every patient and every family member anyone who may be anxious, in pain, or facing the unknown and reminds them that they are not alone. It is our duty as Lebanese mothers to raise a generation rooted in kindness, guided by love, and strengthened by forgiveness, and painting is a means to that”.
In turn, Ms. Tonnie Choueiri, Psychologist at Bellevue Medical Center, commented, “This collaboration sends an important message: caring for health is not only about medicine and technology, but also about humanity, connection, and heart. These pieces of art become bridges between children and adults, between the community and the hospital, and between suffering and hope”.
This initiative reaffirms Bellevue Medical Center’s commitment to holistic patient care and to creating a compassionate healing environment where patients feel safe and reassured, an essential part of the recovery journey.
