Credit Libanais launches an additional layer of security “OTP” on the 3D Secure service to enhance E-commerce & mobile commerce.

In line with its strategy towards a cashless society, and in order to encourage online shopping, Credit Libanais has put in place an additional layer of security to enhance 3D Secure authentication service when paying online.

The new enhanced security feature protects the cardholder from internet fraud by confirming their identity through the usage of a One-time Passcode OTP that provides an additional authentication without the need for the cardholder to remember multiple passcodes or go through lengthy card registration.

Credit Libanais made it simple and as safe and secure as always.

Mrs. Randa Bdeir, Deputy General Manager at Credit Libanais, said: “In order to promote, encourage and develop E-commerce, it is imperative that we offer cardholders and merchants solutions that are easy to implement. We are in process of applying a digital security plan that meets present and future market needs. Therefore, we have enhanced 3D secure authentication service to use a new authentication known as One-Time Passcode OTP

Mrs. Bdeir added: “Our strategy has always been to safeguard our customers in the payment industry not only through well thought internal policies and technical assessments but also through providing new enhanced services that will protect card information. It is in this respect that Credit Libanais adopted the latest technical security standards and was the first Lebanese bank to achieve PCI DSS compliance together with its affiliate companies.

3D Secure authentication is a FREE service offered by Visa and MasterCard that allows cardholders to transact online securely using their Debit or Credit Card at 3D Secure participating merchants.

While purchasing online with Credit Libanais debit or credit cards at 3D Secure participating merchants’ websites, cardholders will receive by SMS on their registered mobile, even if they are abroad, a One-Time Passcode OTP consisting of 6 digits to authenticate the transaction.

The same OTP cannot be used for another transaction, therefore OTP protects cardholders against any possible fraudulent attempts and unauthorized usage.

Mrs. Bdeir ended “The launch of the enhanced 3D secure authentication technology with OTP adds up to the Bank ongoing efforts to adapt to today’s lifestyles and provide convenient and secure payment solutions, while putting customers at the center of all that we do – this means anticipating our customers’ needs through superior experience and greater convenience”.
