Today, around the world and in Lebanon, domestic violence and violence against women at home is hitting its highest numbers due to the current lockdown. The Lebanese officials have reported an increase of 100% on hotline calls for March only in relation to violence against women at home. Abaad, a gender equality NGO is still working to reach out to those victims and support them mentally, physically, and psychologically, all through their active center and staff who are available. However, during the lockdown and the restrictions, many women are not aware that support platforms and safe shelters are still functioning normally. So, they stay in fear of leaving the house, if not, in many circumstances, forced to stay in the house by their abuser.Being in lockdown doesn’t mean you should be locked up.Therefore, Abaad is launching the support call #LockDownNotLockUp , #حجر_مش_حجز We are launching the campaign with an invitation to all Lebanese to share the hotline on a sheet on their balconies this Thursday at 6pm.
Let’s share the Helpline number 81788178 dedicated to women enduring violence at home and stand together in solidarity on Thursday at 6 PM on our balconies.
