Born in Barcelona Spain on 3rd July 1956, Juan Carlos Torres settled in Geneva in 1960 and was introduced to the watchmaking industry in 1976 when he joined Camy Watch. He perfected his knowledge and expertise of watch manufacturing when he joined Vacheron Constantin in 1981 and has been closely involved in the key milestones and accomplishments of Vacheron Constantin since this time. He was appointed in 2005 to be the head of the Maison Vacheron Constantin, the world’s oldest watch manufacturer with uninterrupted activity for over 260 years. Juan-Carlos Torres is committed to excellence and to the Maison’s fundamental values. These include respect for its clients, for the work of its artisans, for the superlative technical and aesthetic quality of its timepieces, as well as for the top-rate services Vacheron Constantin provides. He is also committed to cultivating authenticity, loyalty and tolerance, all of which he considers crucial to the further development of the company. Keenly aware of the importance of passing on knowledge, he has made this one of his top priorities since 2005. His determined approach has involved substantially reinforcing activities in this regard by increasing the number of watchmaker apprentices from 2 to 26, as well as integrating the Métiers d’Art (Artistic Crafts) workshops to ensure their sustainability. Engravers, guillocheurs, gem-setters and enamellers have all been provided with workshops and a framework within which to express their talents. Juan-Carlos Torres created in 2006 “Atelier Cabinotiers Special Order” department which perpetuates the unique expertise of Vacheron Constantin’s master watchmakers, who work in the great Genevan tradition of the Cabinotiers watch workshops. The Atelier Cabinotiers offers clients a highly exclusive service: that of producing unique timepieces, entirely custom- made and created on an individual commission basis. On September 17th 2015, Vacheron Constantin revealed one of Atelier Cabinotiers’ greatest technical achievements: the most complicated watch ever made, Reference 57260. On February 21, 2012, Juan-Carlos Torres was presented with a Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters) award by the French ambassador to Switzerland, on behalf of the French Minister of Culture and Communication. This decoration came in recognition of his commitment both on a personal level and on behalf of Vacheron Constantin, and for his endeavours to support the world of art and culture – the foundation of knowledge transfer and therefore the source of progress. Juan-Carlos Torres is married and has two adult children. His hobbies include music and classical cars.
