One of the oldest Lebanese coastal cities dating back to the Phoenicians’ era, El Mina city has a rich long history. It is commonly mistaken as part of Tripoli while actually El Mina is an independent city with its own Municipality.
In addition to its unique geographic location, this authentic city enjoys many attractions that constitute itsmain economic leverage, such as historical monuments, craft and wood industries, the corniche sidewalk, the fishing sector and above all its famous islands and nature reserves. Actually, El Mina city is the only Lebanese city where visitors can enjoy not only boat trips in the sea, but they get to explore its beautiful islands, especially the Palms Island (also known as the Rabbit Island).
In 2021, El Mina city was chosen by Relief International experts to reactivate its tourism sector since it is considered one of the main local economic fields of the city and constitutes the main source of income for many of its citizens and businesses.
This project is part of a transversal program called “New Beginnings” funded by The European Regional Development and Protection Program for Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq (RDPP II) in order to reduce child laboramongst vulnerable communities and this goal will be enabled through “Job Creation Plans” such as reactivating the tourism sector in El Mina city mentioned earlier.
In August 2022 “Rouh El Mina” campaign was launched to encourage Lebanese residents and expats visiting Lebanon, to discover and experience El Mina city as part of a much larger communication and destination marketing strategy elaborated and executed by Sharks Creators agency. The main goal is to create awareness for El Mina and its touristic, cultural, archaeological attractions and islands. This project also aims at motivating private investments and startups in the tourism sector in El Mina city, which will eventually contribute in more job creations, by establishing a digital platform for the touristic vendors like boat operators, restaurants, guest houses, coffee shops, etc. to showcase their services and it will be managed by the “Tourism And Communication Office” of El Mina Municipality.
