- Huawei rewards Lebanese students for excelling in Middle East ICT Competition
Lebanon, May 23, 2022: The Lebanon team which has been ranked in second place in the 5th Huawei ICT Competition Middle East region will participate in the global finals of Huawei ICT Competition 2022 to be held in June. Huawei recognized the Lebanese students for their outstanding performance in the regional finals during a ceremony where winners received certificates and valuable prizes.
The Lebanese team ranked in second place in the Huawei Middle East ICT Competition finals including Alain Nohra of AUST, Mohamad Dabaja of Lebanese University, Christina Raad of Notre Dame University–Louaize, and their tutor, Gaby Abou Haidar, ranked second in the Huawei Middle East ICT Competition 2021. Pia El Houssaini and Charbel Sarkis of Arab Open University – Lebanon and Ali Haidar and Ali Mroueh of Al Maaref University also excelled in the finals.
The Huawei Middle East ICT Competition has received tremendous support from Bassel Al-Ayoubi, General Director of the Ministry of Telecommunications, Johnny Corm, Lebanon Minister for Telecommunications, and Dr. Roger Achkar, Dean, Faculty of Engineering at the American University of Science and Technology (AUST).
General Director of the Ministry of Telecommunications, Bassel Al-Ayoubi, said, “We are proud of the Lebanese teams for their achievements during the ICT Competition and for representing Lebanon on a global stage. The youth play a large role in the future of Lebanon’s socio-economic growth. Competitions such as the Huawei Middle East ICT Competition support Lebanon’s ambitions of promoting innovation, nurturing homegrown talent, and fostering a supportive environment for the ICT sector.”
Dr. Roger Achkar, Dean, Faculty of Engineering at the American University of Science and Technology, said, “We appreciate the support accorded by Huawei to our university and other institutions in Lebanon. We have seen over the years the positive impact of the ICT Competition on our ICT training programs. The demand for ICT talent continues to rise, and we want to maintain such partnerships and support Lebanon’s digital transformation.”

Launched in 2017, the Huawei ICT Competition has witnessed the participation of over 75,000 students across the Middle East and today has become one of Huawei’s most influential competitions.
