The HUAWEI P line-up, the company’s photography focused series, recently saw the addition of three new members, the new HUAWEI P30 series. Comprised of the HUAWEI P30, HUAWEI P30 Lite and the HUAWEI P30 Pro, these new phones house some of the latest in smartphone camera innovations.
However, the HUAWEI P30 Pro, also called the Supercamera Phone, takes the cake with its photography capabilities. Housing an intricate setup of the world’s first Leica Quad Cameras, the HUAWEI P30 Pro truly is a force to be reckoned with, even bagging the TIPA Award 2019 for Best Photo Smartphone.
Here is how all the elements of the HUAWEI P30 Pro work together to create a supercamera experience like no other, while at the same time powerful hardware delivers a superfast user experience.
World’s first Leica Quad Camera setup
As the name suggests, the Quad Leica Camera setup is built of four cameras. This includes a 40MP main camera with the HUAWEI SuperSpectrum sensor, 20MP Ultra-Wide angle camera, an 8MP telephoto camera with SuperZoom and the HUAWEI Time of Flight (ToF) camera. These lenses all work together to create some of the most stunning photos, but it is the innovations in them that make the impossible, possible.
First, the SuperSpectrum Sensor. The sensor is also equipped with a large 1.1.7-inch RYYB CFA, which adopts Red, Yellow and Blue pixels, instead of the traditional Red, Green and Blue combination. This allows up to 40 percent more light to enter the sensor, allowing for clear and crisp photos and videos even in low to no light situations. Thanks to this technology, the sensor is also capable of supporting an ISO of 409,600, the highest ever on a smartphone camera. This is further supported by the powerful image stabilization technologies, both Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and HUAWEI AI Image Stabilization (AIS), that work as one solution to deliver the best pictures be it long exposure, quick shots or even videos.
The second innovation is the SuperZoom. The SuperZoom lens uses a periscope design which consists of a prism element that bends light at a 90-degree angle, making it easy to fit such heavy hardware, without compromising on the phone’s design. The SuperZoom feature will allow users to zoom up to 5x optical zoom, 10x hybrid zoom and a stunning 50x digital zoom, which can bring even the farthest objects closer. Not only can you use this feature to zoom into the moon, but the on-board OIS and AIS will ensure steady photos and videos without any blur.
For photographers who love shooting portrait shots, the HUAWEI Time of Flight camera uses sophisticated depth information-capturing capabilities to create beautiful shots with rich bokeh. This camera supports multi-level, depth-of-field effects and portrait segmentation, which ensures a high level of detail and a highly-realistic photo.
The camera innovations also expand to video recording, which include AI Movie Mode for recording in stunning effects and filters, as well as Dual Stabilization while recording to ensure crisp and clear videos without any kind of blurs. Thanks to the SuperSpectrum sensor and SuperZoom, shooting videos is a different experience of its own, be it low light or super zoomed in.
However, the key innovation for videos is the new Dual-View Video1. This new mode brings an entirely new perspective for video recording, opening the doors for a more creative video-recording experience. This mode uses multiple cameras simultaneously while recording that allows users to record both a close-up and wide-angle shot at the same time. While using this mode, the display is divided into two halves to show each perspective and the user can also customize each screen.

More than just a camera: Solid performance with powerful hardware
The HUAWEI P30 Pro packs a massive 4,200 mAh super-sized battery, which is capable of giving users extended periods of use, such as using the camera for recording large amounts of footage or photoshoots. In the event of low charge, the phone can charge back up to 70% in just 30 minutes, thanks to the 40W HUAWEI SuperCharge. For easier charging, the HUAWEI P30 Pro also supports 15W HUAWEI Wireless Supercharge. Users can also charge up other phones and devices with the HUAWEI Wireless Reverse Charge technology, provided it supports the Qi wireless charging standard.
The HUAWEI P30 Pro’s super powered camera setup demands for powerful processing capabilities. This is provided by the Kirin 980, HUAWEI’s flagship chipset and the fastest one yet. Not only does it promise faster processing speeds without draining the battery, it also contributes towards capturing the perfect shot by quickly adapting to AI scenes such as face recognition, object recognition, object detection, image segmentation and intelligent translation. The chipset is further supported by GPU Turbo 3.0, which enhances the overall graphics creating a better visual experience. In terms of RAM, the HUAWEI P30 Pro packs in 8GB for an overall smoother user experience and also provides both 256GB and 512GB storage options.
The HUAWEI P30 Pro is packed with even more innovations. These include the HUAWEI Acoustic Display Technology that takes away the need for a telephone receiver and an improved In-Screen Fingerprint sensor for unlocking the phone with just a tap. The phone also boasts a unibody design and an IP68 rating, keeping it safe from dust and water.
