Beirut, April 7 2020: In the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak, TeleHealth has come forward as a necessary step to connect patients with their healthcare providers. The American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC), and as part of its commitment to the health and welfare of its community, has recently introduced the Telehealth feature through its MyAUBHealth app. The tool creates a remote link between patients and their healthcare providers through a secure internet connection.
The use of such a platform comes with significant benefits for patients especially in current times of home confinement and isolation necessary to contain the spread of COVID-19. TeleHealth offers great flexibility in terms of time and place by reducing unnecessary visits to the medical center usually accompanied with waiting time in waiting areas, thus eliminating the need for travel or transportation during the lockdown. Having access to your doctor from the comfort of your home will also maintain privacy and ease while discussing sensitive health issues.
The integration of TeleHealth into the MyAUBHealth app allows patients to schedule an appointment with their doctor in various specialties such as Psychiatry, Family Medicine, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Pain Clinic, Surgery, Cardiology, Nephrology, and Dermatology. At the time of the appointment, the patient will engage with the doctor through a live and secure video call, where the doctor will have direct access to the patient’s medical record to review history and test results, review and modify medications, document the clinical findings, and order any needed tests.
In order to access TeleHealth, the patient needs to log into MyAUBHealth app, either through the mobile or the website, click on “Schedule an Appointment”, select “Online Visits” and then read the “Terms & Conditions”. Once done, the patient will be able to choose the specialty and doctor they would like to book an appointment with. Having selected the needed healthcare provider, the patient will be given the option to pick the time of the appointment from the available time slots. To make sure that your phone or computer is suitable for the online visit, you will be asked to “Test Hardware”. On the day of the appointment, all you will need to do is click on “Begin Online Visit” to initiate the visit with your doctor.
The introduction of a platform like TeleHealth is another attestation of AUBMC’s continuous efforts and commitment to provide its patients with the best available care despite all circumstances. The health and wellbeing of AUBMC’s community remains to be the Medical Center’s top priority.
