Volvo Cars, the premium car maker, has announced that its luxury Sedan Volvo S90, was named Best Midsize Premium Sedan at the Middle East Car of the Year (MECOTY) Awards, held alongside the 2nd International Motor Show, Abu Dhabi.
The Volvo S90 win at MECOTY awards, the largest and most coveted of the regional automotive industry, comes after XC90’s success at several leading global motoring awards last year. XC90 was named Best Medium Premium SUV at MECOTY and jury prize in 2016. Other regional awards received by the S90 so far include those from Arab Wheels, Automobile Magazine and Future TV.
Emre Karaer, General Manager – Volvo Car MENA & CIS, commented: “Volvo Cars is proud that the S90 has been named Best Midsize Premium Sedan by the MECOTY jury. We are better known for our SUVs and estates but S90 has redefined what a luxury sedan is capable of as it combines cutting-edge technology with effortless Scandinavian design. The award is a recognition of the Swedish brand’s continuing transformation and I believe S90 will become a strong player in its segment. This win highlights the success of our new design and engineering direction and bodes well for the future as we unveil new models in the coming years.”
The Volvo S90 has been unveiled to critical acclaim and praise from media since its launch and the new 90 series cars globally accounted for a fifth of total sales volume in 2016. In the Middle East, Volvo Cars also improved its position in the premium segment in 2016, reporting sales growth of 14.4 per cent as compared to 2015.
“Volvo S90 truly demonstrates our commitment to delivering best-in-class, premium, and exhilarating driving experiences to our customers. As leaders in safety, electrification and autonomous driving, our aim is to redefine ‘premium’ cars for the future,” added Karaer.
The MECOTY awards integrates a complex yet transparent nomination and scoring methodology which is developed, tested and implemented by the most experienced motoring minds of the industry.
