Beirut, 10 July 2017 (United Nations Information Center) – The Modern University for Business & Science (MUBS), in collaboration with the United Nations Information Centre in Beirut (UNIC Beirut) will host on Saturday, July 15 2017, the MUBS Youth Festival 2017, at the Semqanieh campus, Chouf, to celebrate the international World Youth Skills Day.
The event will bring together Lebanese youth for a full day of activities and workshops that aim to develop their skills in areas such as communication, photography, upcycling, and writing. The Festival will also distribute Outstanding Youth Awards to ten exceptional members of Lebanon’s youth in the fields of technology, business, environment, education and sustainable development. The event will also feature the opening of the Semqanieh Public Garden and the launch of the University Wellness Centre (UWC).
The World Youth Skills Day is an official UN day that aims to raise awareness on the importance of youth skills development. Young people are almost three times more likely to be unemployed than adults and are continuously exposed to lower quality of jobs and greater labor market inequalities. Education and training are key determinants of success in the labor market. Skills and jobs for youth also feature prominently in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and SDG target 4.4 calls for a substantial increase in the number of youth and adults who have relevant skills.
With four campuses offering educational programs as well as undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Beirut, Aley, Damour and Semqanieh, MUBS supports people in all regions of Lebanon regardless of their age, financial status, gender, or background, and is committed to improving youth skills.
