This season, fine jeweler Donna Hourani pays homage to her loving Grandmother with a collection of intricate pieces inspired by simple, domestic items discovered as a young inquisitive child, going through her grandmother’s drawer. Hourani’s grandmother, a talented seamstress and mother of eight children, holds a special place in the designer’s heart, and this enduring love is translated into a collection of thoughtfully designed objet d’art named ‘Jaroor el Teta’.
‘All over the world there are women like my Grandmother, hard-working and independent, who do what they do without any recognition. These are the women I want to wear my pieces. It’s a story that everyone can relate’ explains Donna.
Adorned with natural, ethically sourced gemstones such as Tourmaline, Citrine and Blue Topaz, the ‘Jaroor el Teta’ collection features knick- knack motifs that have been translated to covetable fine jewelery. Key items include sinuous needle and thread earrings, Phoenician designed thimble rings, single labyrinthine hairpin earrings and jeweled safety pin necklaces all created in 18k rose, white and yellow gold. A nod to her Lebanese heritage and love for her home country, Hourani also includes in the collection delicate necklaces using antique silver Lebanese coins.
As well as her grandmother, Donna is inspired by other strong, hardworking women and with her collection, she aims to empower women through the translation of these domestic, everyday items into fine objects of desire that reflect the value and strength of women.
The ‘Jaroor el Teta’ collection is a testament to Donna’s meticulous attention to detail and an expression of her curious and creative mind that is the driving force behind the designs of her unique jewelry.
