As Lebanon faces one of the worst humanitarian and healthcare crises in its recent history, Life for Relief and Development has stepped up its emergency response efforts, delivering vital medical aid to hospitals and health centers across the country.
The collapse of economic and security conditions has displaced more than 103,000 people—with 70% being women and children. Alarming statistics show that over 50% of children under two suffer from acute malnutrition, while 80% of households are in urgent need of assistance. According to the World Food Program (WFP), 1.17 million people currently face severe food insecurity, with this number projected to reach 1.24 million by October 2025.
Health conditions have deteriorated dramatically. Many camps and shelters lack clean water, sanitation, and adequate nutrition. Power outages, expired medications, and fuel shortages have made matters worse. According to Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health, 67 hospitals and 177 ambulances have been hit in recent attacks, resulting in the deaths of 222 healthcare workers and injuries to 330 more.
Life USA’s Emergency Response in Lebanon
In direct response to this crisis, Life for Relief and Development has provided emergency medical aid to six major hospitals, supplying them with essential equipment, surgical tools, emergency relief kits, and critical medications.
Support was also extended to local organizations including:
- L’Ecoute NGO, serving individuals with special needs in the southern suburbs.
- Arcenciel, aiding underserved communities in Beirut and beyond.
- Asile Maronite des Vieillards, a health and social care center in Mount Lebanon.
These contributions included vital signs monitors, mobility aids, wheelchairs, and other essential equipment.
“These supplies made a noticeable difference in the lives of people with disabilities and the elderly,” said Elie Kazzi, Director of Arcenciel.
Charlie Nakouz, VP and CFO of L’Ecoute, added: “This support allowed us to continue serving our beneficiaries during an extremely difficult time.”
Aline Farah, Head of Procurement at Geitaoui Lebanese Hospital, emphasized: “We received these supplies at a critical time. They enabled us to maintain patient care with dignity and respect.”
A Legacy of Support: 19 Years of Relief Work in Lebanon
Since 2006, Life USA has been actively responding to Lebanon’s recurring crises—starting with the war and mass displacement of a quarter of the population. The organization initially provided temporary shelter and emergency relief, later expanding its programs to support widows, orphans, and displaced families.
“Our support continued during the COVID-19 pandemic, especially for vulnerable families in camps,” said Omar Mamdouh, Director of Projects at Life.
“Following the 2020 Beirut Port explosion, we expanded our efforts to include emergency shelter, food aid, and medical assistance as the port—responsible for 80% of Lebanon’s imports—was destroyed.”
Life has also focused on psychosocial support and post-trauma care for children showing signs of emotional distress, providing professional mental health services to help reintegrate them into society.
Ongoing Relief Across Gaza and Lebanon
In 2024, as regional conflict intensified once again, Life USA scaled up its operations.
“We expanded emergency projects to cover hospital needs, medical equipment, ambulances, and trauma kits,” said Mohammed Al-Sharif, Project Coordinator in Lebanon.
Life USA’s comprehensive support includes:

- Orphan and widow sponsorships (nearly 600 orphan families)
- Disability care and support for the elderly
- Seasonal food aid during Ramadan, Eid al-Adha, and winter months
- Clothing and heating support before winter
- School rehabilitation and re-enrollment projects
- University scholarships
Through these sustained efforts, Life for Relief and Development continues to serve as a beacon of hope in Lebanon—ensuring dignity, safety, and care for the most vulnerable.
