Beirut, 17 September 2019 (United Nations Information Centre)— Under the auspices of the Lebanese Ministry of Environment and in collaboration with the UN Information Centre in Beirut (UNIC Beirut), Junior Chamber International (JCI), a non-profit organization, is organizing clean-up campaigns on Saturday 21 September in 12 different locations in Lebanon on the occasion of World Clean Up Day.
The campaigns start at 8:30 AM and end at 01:00PM. It is worth mentioning that this is part of a global campaign whereby similar events are happening in 150 countries around the world uniting over than 17 million volunteers.
The Lebanese areas to be cleaned are the following:
- In Mount Lebanon: ِAramoun, Keserwan, Chouf, Sin el Fil, Helalieh and Rweiset Al Ballout
- In Bekaa: Zahle, Terbol, Al Kaa and Baalbek
- In the North: Kfarabida and Akkar (Meshmosh)
The World Clean Up Day is a voluntary day where several public areas are chosen to be cleaned by volunteers. This event aims at spreading awareness about the importance of maintaining a safe, healthy and sustainable environment, and of reducing, reusing and recycling our trash.
