- Additional donation of 1.6 metric tons of medicines as part of the “A Humanitarian Ship for Lebanon” operation
Paris – September 2nd, 2020 – Sanofi and the Sanofi Espoir Foundation are stepping up their engagement to aid Lebanon. To continue with their response to the humanitarian needs caused by the tragic explosion in Beirut, the Sanofi Espoir Foundation has coordinated an additional donation of 1.6 metric ton of Sanofi medicines as part of the “A Humanitarian Ship for Lebanon” operation conducted by CMA CGM.
These medical products were shipped to Beirut by the CMA CGM vessel Aknoul and are currently being unloaded, an operation which Mr. Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic, attended this morning in the company of Mr. Paul Hudson, Chief Executive Officer of Sanofi, and Mr. Rodolphe Saadé, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the CMA CGM Group. The medicines destined for Beirut’s public and private hospitals include antibiotics.
“Given the scale of this disaster, Sanofi and its Sanofi Espoir Foundation are continuing to rally their resources to help patients in Beirut”, says Valérie Faillat, Head of the Sanofi Espoir Foundation. “By participating in this humanitarian operation, we are demonstrating our solidarity with the people involved together with our ongoing commitment to enabling health.”
This contribution follows an initial donation of four metric tons of medicines and vaccines sent on August 7th with the support of the French Ministry for the Armed Forces, and in collaboration with the Crisis and Support Center of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, the Tulipe association and UNICEF.
About the Sanofi Espoir Corporate Foundation
Created in 2010, the Sanofi Espoir Corporate Foundation aims to reduce inequalities in health in France and internationally. Its actions aim to improve the health of the most vulnerable populations, particularly children. These serve the Foundation’s vision of a world in which everyone has a chance to be born, grow and maintain their health. This ambition covers four strategic areas: maternal and neonatal health, pediatric cancers in low- and middle-income countries, access to healthcare for the most vulnerable populations in France, and responding to humanitarian crises.
