Beirut, 13 October 2015 – President of Byblos Bank Group, Dr. François Bassil held a lunch in honor of the Belgian economic delegation headed by Cecile Jodogne, State Secretary of the Brussels-Capital Region, responsible for Foreign Trade, in the presence of Lebanese Economy and Trade Minister Dr. Alain Hakim, Belgian Ambassador to Lebanon Alex Lenaerts, Belgian diplomats, as well as Lebanese and Belgian businessmen.
In his speech for the occasion, Dr. Bassil hailed the Belgian delegation stressing that its presence “clearly reflects the will of the Belgian authorities in general and Mrs. Jodogne in particular, to strengthen, intensify, and diversify economic ties between our two countries”. He added: “I encourage Belgian businesses to strongly invest in Lebanon, where a draft law for a partnership between the public and private sectors is being prepared. The country is also working on telecom, water, energy, waste management and sustainability projects which could see the light soon.”
For her part, Mrs. Jodogne thanked Dr. Bassil and Byblos Bank for their warm welcome and said: “The purpose of my visit to the region is to confirm that Lebanon is an important country for us, and we believe that it has an essential role to play”. She added: “This meeting is a great
opportunity for Belgian companies to develop partnerships. Belgium and Lebanon are two small yet very open countries that share many values.”
