ACCA Middle East has welcomed its fully qualified cohort of new members, bringing together three years of graduates from 2019 to 2021 following the pandemic.
Dubai, July 4, 2022
Celebrating the culmination of years of study, sacrifice and commitment, more than 400 ACCA new members were honoured at a prestigious ceremony at EIBFS Emirates Institute for banking and financial studies, Dubai. Three years of new members came together in the first ceremony to be held following two years of the pandemic.
ACCA President Orla Collins and regional head Fazeela Gopalani welcomed the new members, many of whom have worked tirelessly to achieve the highly regarded ACCA professional qualification. For many of these members, achieving the certification represents the first time anyone in their family has attained a higher education qualification.
Collins formally welcomed the newly inducted members, highlighting that they are at the beginning of a journey that, thanks to their membership of ACCA, brings a world-class support network and resources.
“Today you are joining a community of over 750,000 members and future members that brings together people across continents and cultures. People starting out often ask what is special about ACCA. My answer is always the same: ACCA is opportunity. ACCA opens the door to satisfying and rewarding careers. Employers love hiring ACCA accountants, a gold standard for professional accomplishment and ethical standards. ACCA transformed my own life; there were no accountants in my family to follow, and joining ACCA opened doors I never knew existed and gave me a career that has taken me around the world.”
Fazeela Gopalani, head of ACCA Middle East, said: “Today is a celebration of your hard work and the sacrifices made by you and your families. Studying for the ACCA qualification is by no means a small task.
“ACCA has long earned and enjoyed a high degree of respect, admiration and trust throughout the global accounting profession. Today, we have a network of over 80 formal partnerships in place around the world, with other accountancy bodies, professional associations, and academic institutions, which means the profile and standing of our members is considerably enhanced. This demonstrates what a global passport the ACCA qualification is.”
“At a time of huge fiscal transformation in the region, with the introduction of VAT, new IFRS standards and diversification across the economy, combined with the pandemic, which catapulted the importance of technically competent finance teams – the role of professional accountants has never been more important.” – Fazeela Gopalani
The new members are part of the vibrant global ACCA community, which consists of more than 233,000 members in 183 countries.
The ceremony was graced by a number of distinguished guests including event sponsors: renowned UAE audit and advisory firm HLB HAMT, Sidra Salman & Co Chartered Accountants and Crowe UAE.
The celebratory event was followed by a networking opportunity for members to meet other members and employers.
