The Diplomatic Spouses in Lebanon celebrated the International Women’s Day at Le Gray Hotel in central Beirut with the participation of women and men from the diplomatic corps, non-governmental organizations, the international community and Lebanese women.
The President of the Association, the wife of H.E. Ambassador of Mexico to Lebanon Margarita Madrazo, opened the ceremony with a speech in which she affirmed that the world celebrates and honors women on March 8, since women have achieved many success in the political, economical and social field all over the world.
However, there are still women Violence and Abuse, and there are women deprived of their right to education and the most basic necessities of life
Madrazo pointed out that equality between men and women establishes a much better world, so women must fight and struggle with all their strength to reach their goal and safety.
After the speech of the President of the Assembly, there was an intervention by Mrs. Patricia J. Elias who spoke about injustice in the laws that women suffer in general and Lebanese in particular.
The proceeds from the Charity brunch went to the “Voice of the Lebanese Women” association.
In a special gesture, DSAL honored Ms. Lea Baroud, President of the Marsh Association, which was distinguished in working with marginalized youth, defending freedom of opinion, expression and equality, and rejecting sectarianism, violence and other social scourges.
