-Dr. Nasser Yassin, Minister of the Environment,
-Mr. Asaad Zogheib, President of the municipal council of Zahle,Moalaka et Taanayel
-Mr. Farouk Merehbi, Environmental Consultant at the World Bank.
The session was moderated by Professor Charbel Afif, Head of the Chemistry Department at Saint Joseph University.
The discussion focused on the following points:
What are the reasons for the cost recovery in the solid waste sector?
What is the proposed cost recovery plan, and what is the role of the municipalities in this sector?
Dr. Nasser Yassin revealed his plan, which he prepared with his team at the Ministry of the Environment, due to the lack of law enforcement for the treatment of solid waste .
This plan will help Lebanon in:
• Tons of waste that can be recycled
•To be able to reduce the state’s significant environmental costs
•To benefit from the products that can result from recycling such as paper and other minerals…
The plan includes a short- and long-term vision, based on three main pillars:
•Recycling
•Absolute decentralization of the solid waste treatment document
•The ability of recycling projects in municipalities to recover their costs from their own resources.
100% Liban is working to find effective solutions for solid waste via decentralization.
The environment is our responsibility.
