Beirut – Thursday, 12 May 2016: Byblos Bank has launched a call for applications to the 2016 Byblos Bank Award for photography, whose winner will be announced during BEIRUT ART FAIR this coming September.
Candidates may submit their applications online on www.byblosbankaward.com until Thursday, 30 June 2016. The 10 finalists will exhibit their photos at Byblos Bank’s booth at BEIRUT ART FAIR. Both the finalists and the winner of the award will be chosen by a jury of experts in photography.
Launched in 2012 and organized by BEIRUT ART FAIR, the Byblos Bank Award has become one of Lebanon’s most prestigious awards for artistic photography. Its mission is to place the Lebanese emerging photographers at the heart of the art market. This is made possible by giving them access to key players in the field namely: gallerists, collectors, experts, and the media. Participants will also benefit from exposure on social media through “Purple Lens by Byblos Bank”, a Facebook page dedicated to the Bank’s photography program.
In 2015, some 180 emerging Lebanese photographers submitted more than 1000 photos in the hope of winning the award. Carmen Yahchouchy ended up winning it and received an expert mentoring program in preparation for her first solo exhibition. This exhibition took place in April 2016 at Byblos Bank Headquarters.
