Startup company Disrupt Snacks will open a factory for the production of healthy popcorn, in December 2019.
The factory is owned by Georgio Daher who created the brand name ‘Pop Pop’ for the popcorn.
Planning started at the beginning of 2018 as Daher was working to secure a subsidized loan from BDL through BLC Bank and also to negotiate with manufacturing line producers. All machinery will be Japanese and American, conveyors will be locally made.
The factory is being built in Zahle’s industrial zone with an investment of $650,000, excluding the land cost. The total built-up area of the factory is 650 square meters (m2).
The factory will create 15 full time jobs. It will distribute its products in the local market. “Part of production will be exported to Arab and Gulf countries,” said Daher.
“We should not be afraid of the economic situation in Lebanon as it has been the same for 10s of years. We should take risks or go home”, said Daher.
Disrupt Snacks will produce other types of healthy snacks later on, according to Daher.
