Beirut, October 19, 2018
ESA Business School Research Centre (CRED), the Environmental Change Institute of Oxford University (ECI) and the Institut Francais du Proche-Orient (IFPO) organized on October 18 & 19, 2018 “Rethink the City” the International Conference on Resilience in Post-conflict Cities.
In the presence of Mr. Ziad Chbib, Beirut Governor, the event gathered academic researchers and experts to share best practices, experiences and lessons learned between cities and communities living in stable settings and those that are experiencing post-conflict reconstruction following crisis and/or armed conflict.
The conference discussed in plenary session, questions related to the transition toward sustainability in Shanghai, Barcelona, Istanbul, Venice and Lebanon based on the results of the GreenWin-WP6 track (https://www.green-win-project.eu/about/wp6) and the critical factors of post-conflict reconstruction using the practical experience of researchers coming from Syria, Irak and Palestine.
“Rethink the city” was preceded by “Hack the city” – a 53-hour “Hackathon” organized on 13 and 14 October by SMART ESA, the ESA incubator.
This hackathon aims to enable innovative startups to look into sustainable and effective solutions for the urban planning of the city. This event was strongly supported by the Municipality of Beirut that ESA warmly thanks for its support.
