Beirut, Lebanon – October 2026: Throughout October, in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the LAU Medical Centers – Rizk Hospital and Saint John’s Hospital carried out a series of initiatives to promote breast cancer awareness, early detection, regular screening, and open conversations about breast health through education, community outreach, and screening services.
As part of its annual tradition, LAU Medical Center – Rizk Hospital illuminated its façade in pink throughout October, symbolizing hope, solidarity, and support for breast cancer patients and survivors.
Throughout October, The Medical Centers took part in the campaign of the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) and offered discounted rates on mammograms, helping make breast cancer screening more accessible.
They also participated in the Pinky Promise initiative in collaboration with the Barbara Nassar Association, bringing together the LAU Mobile Clinic, LAU School of Pharmacy, and LAU Nutrition faculty members and students. Under the guidance and supervision of Dr. Naser Al Sharif, Dr. Karl Aoun, and Dr. Marwa Fadlallah, the teams conducted educational activities on medication management, healthy nutrition, and overall well-being. Dr. Annoir Shayya, Hematologist-Oncologist at both LAU Medical Centers, also delivered an awareness session on breast cancer risk factors, prevention, and early detection.
As part of its educational outreach to younger generations, LAU Medical Center – Rizk Hospital welcomed 22 senior students from Saint Coeur Sioufi School for a visit introducing them to the breast cancer care journey, from screening and diagnosis to treatment.
Continuing the collaboration, Dr. Tamina Elias Rizk and Dr. Christina Khater visited the school for an interactive awareness session on early detection, screening, and breaking the stigma surrounding breast cancer. The initiative concluded with an awareness walk from the school to Sassine Square in Achrafieh, promoting hope and solidarity with patients and survivors.
Bringing its breast cancer awareness month campaign message, “Listen to Your Body. Get Screened,” to life, LAU Medical Center–Rizk Hospital, hosted an interactive awareness event in the medical center’s garden, transforming the space into a platform for health education, prevention, and community engagement. Bringing together staff and visitors, the event highlighted the vital role of early detection and proactive health management through interactive awareness booths led by the Radiology, Oncology, Pharmacy, and Nutrition departments, featuring educational activities, Q&A sessions, and trivia on breast health and screening.
Complementing these activities, G Spa led a stretching and mobility session accompanied by live DJ music, reinforcing the connection between physical well-being and listening to one’s body. The event was attended by the medical center’s CEO Mr. Sami Rizk; LAU Health System Executive Vice President Dr. Zeina Khouri-Stevens; Mr. Saad El Zein, Head of Marketing and Communications at LAU Health System; and Chief Operating Officer Christian Bejjani, underscoring the institutions’ commitment to advancing awareness and encouraging proactive approaches to breast health.
Complementing these efforts, the Engineers Medical Clinics, an affiliate of LAU Health System, in collaboration with the Order of Engineers and Architects in Tripoli, offered free clinical breast examinations with Dr. Wael Abdallah to encourage screening and proactive breast health management. Following their examinations, patients benefitted from special mammogram rates at LAU Medical Center–Saint John’s Hospital, ensuring access to further screening services when needed.
Through these initiatives, the LAU Medical Centers reaffirm their commitment to enhancing breast cancer awareness beyond the month of October, striving to make early detection and regular screening an integral part of women’s health. Through continued education, community engagement, open dialogue, and access to screening services, the institution seeks to empower individuals to make informed health decisions while ensuring compassionate, comprehensive support for patients and their families.
