This August, Chôm Chôm is launching Chôm Chôm & Friends, a new monthly series of special banh mi collaborations celebrating chefs, flavours and street food cultures from Dubai and beyond.
Kicking off the series is The 1986 Banh Mi, created in collaboration with Chef Jorge Alvarez-Tostado of Tacos 1986. The special brings together Chôm Chôm’s Vietnamese street food spirit with Chef Jorge’s bold, fire-led taco style, creating a playful meeting of two much-loved street food cultures.
Born in Los Angeles and inspired by the taco culture of Tijuana, Tacos 1986 has grown from a Hollywood street stand into a cult favourite, known for its handmade tortillas, fire-cooked meats, house-made salsas and tacos served con todo. Led by founders Jorge “Joy” Alvarez-Tostado and Victor Delgado, the brand is rooted in flavour, hospitality and the everyday joy of gathering over really good tacos.
The 1986 Banh Mi features carne asada, layered with a creamy guacamole spread, pickled tomato, pickled onion and finished with Tacos 1986’s signature Macha Peanut salsa. It is smoky, bright, saucy and full of crunch, bringing the energy of a taqueria into Chôm Chôm’s signature golden baguette.
Designed for those who like their sandwiches generous, messy and packed with flavour, The 1986 Banh Mi is everything Chôm Chôm does best: fresh, bold, casual and full of personality.
Available throughout August only, the special marks the beginning of Chôm Chôm & Friends, with more collaborations with local chefs and culinary friends already in the pipeline. Each month, a different chef will bring their own culture, flavour and personality to Chôm Chôm’s banh mi.
