AUB Dr. Faysal El Kak has been elected President of the World Association for Sexual Health (WAS) for the 2025-2029 term. This is the first time a scholar from outside the Americas, Europe, and South Africa has been elected to this role.
WAS is a global confederation of sexual health professionals, educators, service providers, and activists that promotes sexual health and rights and reproductive health across the lifespan. Through regional federations and partnerships with organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Population Fund, the International Planned Parenthood Federation, the Gates Foundation, and the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization, WAS advances science-based knowledge, research, education, and care to ensure universal access to sexual health services, rights, justice, and pleasure.
A prominent global voice in woman health in addition to sexual and reproductive health, Dr. El Kak is a senior lecturer, clinical associate, and director of the Women Integrated Sexual Health (WISH) Program at AUBMC. He is also
a member of the Strategic Technical Advisory Group of Experts of WHO.
The recent election of Dr. Faysal El Kak is a testimonial to his international standing and further reinforces AUB’s global presence.
