The American University of Beirut (AUB) announces its commendable performance in the 2024 QS World University Rankings for the Arab Region. According to the newly-released report, AUB has retained the #1 ranking in Lebanon for the 10th consecutive year and advanced regionally, securing the 4th rank in the Arab region. This climb puts AUB in the top 2 percent of 223 listed universities in line with its status as the premier higher education institution in Lebanon and the wider MENA region.
This ascent is especially noteworthy given the difficult circumstances that higher-education institutions in Lebanon face. Despite all the challenges over the past four years, the American University of Beirut has maintained its educational and research excellence, serving the people of Lebanon, the region, and beyond. In fall 2023, the university enrolled its strongest and largest undergraduate and graduate cohorts since 2019. It continued to improve faculty and staff compensation while further expanding financial assistance to its student body. Additionally, AUB welcomed 120 new faculty members over the past two years.
The university’s strongest indicator in the rankings is Employer Reputation, where it is ranked #3 in the region with a near-perfect score of 99 out of 100. This high score not only reflects the quality of education at AUB but also underscores the confidence that employers across the region have in our graduates, recognizing them as exceptionally well-prepared for a successful career.
“Rankings are not a goal in and of themselves, but it is gratifying to be acknowledged as top in our field as we continue to pursue excellence in all we do and graduate citizen leaders who are well placed to make a difference in the world, ” said President Fadlo Khuri. “These rankings affirm AUB’s relentless commitment to academic quality, student success, research productivity, and global engagement. Our robust scores are a testament to the dedication and hard work of the entire AUB community.”
As the American University of Beirut stays true to its mission and vision, rankings can serve as valuable data points in our ongoing quest for excellence. With an eye on the future, we are launching new initiatives to further bolster our academic and research prowess, as well as to broaden our impact. The journey to excellence is a continuous one, and AUB is steadfast in its commitment to lead the way.
