| ROBUST SALES, DISCERNING COLLECTORS AND A GROWING COMMUNITY The third winter edition of NOMAD ST. MORITZ closed on Sunday, 9 February 2020 at Chesa Planta. Our biggest edition to date, it featured more than 30 exhibitors showing both contemporary and historical works of art and design involving material innovations, traditional techniques and unforeseen encounters of the various aesthetic possibilities offered in the aristocratic Romansh style of Chesa Planta. “It’s a fantastic atmosphere, we made good sales and hope to be invited back next year,” Erik Thomsen, whose New York gallery specialises in Japanese antique art and objects, explained stressing the small and intimate nature that continues to distinguish NOMAD strongly from other fairs. As visitor numbers grow steadily the extraordinarily high level of collectors and professionals among guests continues to be the reason galleries and special projects trust this new business model. Design-duo Draga&Aurel speak of NOMAD as “an investment and an experience full of interesting encounters” intriguing far beyond the calculable. “We spent a wonderful weekend with great conversations and the best clientele we could wish for,” reports Quentin Moyse, the new partner of Carwan Gallery who prepares for the gallery’s move from Beirut to Athens later this year. Also, design firms like London’s Established&Sons and the Parisian brand Au Départ use NOMAD to relaunch novel parts of their businesses or reveal a new identity in this potent atmosphere. Founders Giorgio Pace and Nicolas Bellavance-Lecompte speak of the winter edition in St. Moritz as an unmissable “classic” while having expanded and reinvented the interiors of Chesa Planta each time anew. “Together with local partners and an expansive network of international galleries, we have turned NOMAD into one of the Engadine’s biggest success stories. We may return again, but 2020 will definitely see NOMAD take place in an exciting new location. We can’t wait to share!” |
