Beirut, 05 August 2020 – The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Middle East and North Africa (OHCHR) wishes to inform all media outlets and concerned authorities that an individual named Haytham Abou Said who claims to be “Representative of the Office of the Middle East Commissioner of the International Commission for Human Rights and the Special Envoy of the International Council in Geneva”, is meeting with officials in Lebanon to discuss a number of issues related to the United Nations and its International Mechanisms.
In this regard, OHCHR would like to clarify that this individual is not affiliated with any UN organization in Lebanon or globally and therefore his views and opinions do not represent in any way the United Nations system. OHCHR would like to clarify that Mr. Abou said does not enjoy any of the immunities and privileges granted to UN diplomats by the Lebanese Republic.
OHCHR kindly asks all media institutions to take note of this advisory to avoid any confusion in the future.
