Beirut, Lebanon, September 2, 2020: Schneider Electric is backing the reconstruction of Beirut as well as supporting families affected by the explosion at the city’s port. Schneider Electric’s employees worldwide are cooperating with several non-governmental and civil society organizations in Lebanon through the Schneider Electric Foundation’s Tomorrow Rising Fund to give help to those affected.
The company partnered with NGOs including Beit El Baraka and Adventure of Charity to contribute towards the repair and restoration of hundreds of homes that were severely damaged as a result of the explosion. Through a collaboration with IECD-Semeurs D’avenir, it also contributed to the repair of damaged schools and technical institutes which were impacted by the explosion.
Led by Nadim Gerges, the Schneider Electric Foundation delegate for Lebanon, teams have been distributing Mobiya solar-powered portable LED lamps with inbuilt mobile chargers around the Port area, in Karantina, Mar Mikhael and Gemmayze. In addition, Schneider Electric has shipped 1,000 Mobiya lamps to be distributed among affected families who have become homeless after the Beirut port explosion, in cooperation with SOS Attitude, Arc En Ciel and Electricians Without Borders.
