June 8th 2022.
The environmental protection is one of the focus points of “Promoting Community Policing”, the EU funded project.
A cleaning action was held today, June 8th, in Aramoun, in the presence of representatives from the ISF Academy, the EU delegation and the Ministry of Environment.
Mr Rein Nieland, Head of Cooperation: “EU support to Community Policing, transitioning the ISF from ‘a force – to a police service’ is becoming ever more important. Today’s cleaning action of Aramoun with young students from the Lycée Français International Elite Bchamoun supported by the ISF is a clear testament to increase trust between citizens and the security services in Lebanon. It is also a great effort for raising the awareness on environmental issues. We hope this will be the new norm for the future of Lebanon, which in turn will continue to help fostering social cohesion, reinforce partnerships with the local communities, and protect the rights of the people in Lebanon”
Colonel Hajj Chehade, from the ISF Academy: “We must protect the environment, and this work must be carried on from generation to generation.”
General Wajdi Chamseddine, advisor of the minister of environment: “Sustainable thinking is essential, and the idea of a spirit of cooperation has been implemented in this topic. This work has also created an important idea to preserve the environment from generation to generation.”
Mrs Consuelo Navarro, project coordinator of “Promoting Community Policing” project: “Protecting the environment needs your commitment, and it’s finally time to transform this institution into a more environmentally friendly place.
For the first time, we are delivering a training on environmental protection to the municipal police, and a workshop on recycling was delivered few months ago, and today, we’re presenting the guidelines of the best practices.”
Based on the need to ensure environmental protection while strengthening social cohesion, students from the Lycée Elite Bchamoun, members of the ISF, and many volunteers spent a whole day learning about making their communities greener and cleaning an expanse in Aramoun.
This initiative allowed security actors, civil society, and the community to come together, and take action for our environment.
