For the first time, a Lebanese movie, “The Insult” by director Ziad Doueiri, was officially nominated for an Academy Award in the Foreign Language Film category Tuesday afternoon.
The feature film will compete against four other movies from Chile, Russia, Hungary and Sweden respectively.
“The Insult”, which premiered in Lebanon in early fall 2017 is set in modern day Beirut. It follows a dispute between a Christian mechanic and a Palestinian foreman as it develops from a petty personal fight into an explosive national debate, unleashing old war wounds.
