Requested to refrain from resorting to fragmented solutions aiming to gain time”
The Lebanese Association For Taxpayers’ Rights: We need a new authority of integrity for a productive economic vision and an effective tax policy
The Lebanese Association For Taxpayers’ Rights (ALDIC) considered that “there is an urgent need for a new capable authority of integrity for a productive economic vision and an effective tax policy” which aims to “implement the principles of transparency, accountability and accountancy”, requesting “the authority, any authority”, to “give up fragmented solutions (…) aiming to gain time”. The Association reiterated its call for a national “economic and financial forum” which redefines “the economic policies and priorities”, to be “incorporated into a framework law (loi cadre) which will be implemented gradually over the medium term.”
The Association considered in a statement issued on Wednesday that “the recent popular uprising, which crosses political parties and religious communities, exposed the hidden, as it became clear that most Lebanese citizens complain about the mismanagement of the public finances and the burden of their tax system and its unfairness, as well as their resentment of the limited and poor public services and the lack of feasible investments which ” create jobs and provide sustainable growth that provide the Treasury with the necessary revenues.
The Association acknowledged that “the main reason of the foregoing is not only due to the sagging and lack of development of the system, but also to the lack of knowledge and mismanagement of the authorities.”
The Association emphasized that “there is an urgent need for the establishment of a new capable and impartial authority for a productive economic vision and an effective tax policy which includes a set of measures and incentives aimed at influencing the country’s economic and social conditions, as well as the application of the principles of transparency, accountability and accountancy to restore confidence in institutions and the practical and effective implementation of laws.
The Association added: “In this regard, the Lebanese Association For Taxpayers’ Rights (ALDIC) renews the call to hold an economic and financial conference at the national level, in which shall participate, in addition to the public authorities, all those who have an active role in syndicates, associations, organizations and specialists, in order to discuss, gather suggestions, provide a comprehensive vision and redefine the economic policies and priorities which take into account the citizen’s current and future concerns and which comply with a financial modern model, to be included into a framework law (loi cadre) which will be implemented gradually over the medium term.
The Association requested “the authority, any authority, to give up fragmented unrealistic and unstudied aimed at gaining time, and to adopt an integrated and well-defined economic vision really intended to respect the citizens and thus, by taking into account their concerns and needs.”
To this end, the Association stated that “all its abilities, energies, studies and ideas are put at the service of the renewed Lebanese society demanding the rule of law, citizenship and a decent life”.
