January 17 2018, Beirut – “If you want something you have never had, you must be willing to do something you have never done”. In the most unlikely of locations, Beirut’s newest movie theatre made its debut on January 17th. Completely transforming the iconic Grand Stairs at its entrance, Phoenicia Hotel brought an avant-garde approach to the world of cinema. With a large screen installed on the facing entrance wall, the Grand Stairs took on a Bohemian vibe with lounging cushions. For its first movie night, Phoenicia selected one of the world’s best-loved films, the 1940s romantic wartime drama Casablanca, starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. In a starry celebration, Phoenicia’s guests and partners were welcomed with popcorn, champagne and refreshments, marking this day as the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
