Following are the key demonstrations at MWC-R Beirut:
Nokia AirScale Radio Access: This is the most important demonstation. 5G-ready Nokia AirScale redefines radio access, closes the gap between the IT and telco worlds. Nokia’s next generation AirScale Radio Access will radically alter the way networks are built. Operators will be able to use Nokia AirScale Radio Access to profitably satisfy future demands including the Internet of Things, virtual reality, augmented reality, factories of the future and other advanced scenarios such as video that demand extreme performance.
Nokia AirScale Radio Access – highlights:
- Supports any radio technology (2G, 3G, TDD-LTE, FDD-LTE, LTE Advanced, LTE Advanced Pro) running simultaneously in the base station as Single RAN, integrates carrier-grade Wi-Fi access and is 5G-ready
- Leveraging its expertise in mobile networks, Nokia has created cloud-based, carrier-grade Wi-Fi that combines gigabit wireless performance with deployment simplicity. With the launch of Nokia AirScale Wi-Fi, mobile operators can seamlessly integrate Wi-Fi with their existing networks to improve the customer experience and generate new revenue streams. The solution also allows service providers without licensed spectrum to run a Wi-Fi service that takes advantage of mobile edge computing and analytics to deliver advanced context-based services.
- Baseband units can be chained to create virtually unlimited capacity and connectivity to meet the needs of massive IoT connectivity and 5G speeds
- The Cloud RAN uses Nokia’s powerful AirFrame IT hardware that meets stringent radio access capacity, security and latency requirements
- Implements Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) on the same servers as Cloud RAN for easy integration of applications that can use information from the radio for low latency services
- Nokia’s future-proof management solution, Nokia NetAct and Nokia CloudBand TM, can be used for both legacy radio networks and new Cloud RAN, offering easy transformation to virtualization.
Nokia Smart Home solution : Nokia recently announced a new Smart Home solution that lets network operators quickly offer new services to residential customers seeking a digital home solution for the Internet of Things. The solution supports an array of sensors, plugs and other connected devices essential for the delivery of home security, automation and smart metering services, providing customers with a fully integrated, simple, plug-and-play experience.
It connects residential customers to the Internet of Things. It helps operators generate new smart home service revenues from their existing residential customer footprint. The solution provides operators with a simple, streamlined alternative to the multiple smart home devices and services many are challenged with managing today.
MulteFire Co-existence: The demonstration showed how MulteFire can co-exist with Wi-Fi to deliver the high performance, high speeds and security offered by LTE in a densely populated environment. MulteFire complements heterogeneous networks (HetNets), which use a mixture of macro and small cell radios, allowing operators to meet the increased connectivity demands of future smart cities and the Internet of Things.
All-in-one centralized security configuration, monitoring and analysis system :Share
Nokia NetGuard Security Management Center bolsters its security solution family at a time when threats linked to an ever-connected world are on the rise. NetGuard Security Management Center is a consolidated, easy-to-use software platform that lets an operator monitor and control all the multi-vendor security systems deployed across its telecommunications network. Combining the monitoring and configuration of different systems in one place enhances security because incidents can be analyzed and correlated centrally to protect against threats that could otherwise go undetected by isolated security systems.
As well as the quick and easy detection and prevention of attacks, NetGuard Security Management Center also increases operational efficiency and lowers the total cost of security for operators through automated and consistent mass configuration of security policies, bulk firmware upgrades and verification of vendor-specific security hardening settings.
Security orchestration
Nokia Cloud Security Director (CSD) demonstrates on GUI two scenarios:
I – Designs Security Zones in telco cloud infrastructure for sensitive vNF´s ( e.g. vHSS) that require dedicated Hypervisors that are isolated from more exposed vNF´s (P-GW).
II – Designs and automatically deploys a virtual Firewall (e.g. Juniper vSRX) with relevant policies and connect them into the actual Network Service Topology together with CND.
Lean NFV Operations
End-to-end NFV-SDN demonstration showcases effortless service level orchestration in hybrid (physical-virtual) environment coupled with physical mapping of virtualized systems in the context of a distributed n+k architecture. Use cases encompass analytics, automation, programmability in a continuous development and integration environment utilizing portfolio and ecosystem solutions available in (or committed for) 2016. This includes: Service Orchestration – Motive Dynamic Operations (MDO), NFVI (NFV Infrastructure) – AirFrame, MANO (Management & Operations) – OpenStack based cloud stack, SDN (Software Defined Networking) – Nuage Networks, VoLTE (Voice over LTE) – vEPC (Virtualized Evolved Packet Core) and Rapport vIMS (Virtualized IP Multimedia Subsystem) with Contextual Communications. This demonstration also positions Professional Services – Nokia and Alcatel-lucent Cloud Wise Services as well as Bell Labs Consulting and Research, and seeks to engage customers in custom workshops.

Nokia Eden-NET SON : It has combined the best Self Organizing Networks (SON) functionality from the Eden Rock acquisition and Nokia iSON Manager in one solution. This initiative boosts Nokia’S unwavering focus on providing the best-in-classmultivendor SON capabilities. It also responds to operators’ need to simplify, improve agility and efficiency of rapidly changing networks operations.
The new solution is based on both Eden Rock’s Eden-NET and Nokia iSON Manager. It combines the best functionality of both solutions proven to offer substantial improvements to the performance and reliability of mobile networks through automated processes. Thanks to its unique open framework, the solution will allow operators to both customize and create new SON modules to remedy operator-specific pain points. Like no other solution before it, this will provide needed agility and boost industry-wide SON innovation.
CEM Analytics for connected life
Analytics solutions come together here with an interface that allows easy navigation between solutions and a layered view of information where data can be turned on or off and even filtered in your current view. We have modules embedded into this demo including

Microwave: The 9500 Microwave Packet Radio (MPR) supports operators in their transition to all-IP networks. The toolkit provides operators ease of use between different scenarios, small cell backhaul, shorthaul and long haul as per their requirement. The demonstration will show how the toolkit helps operators to maximize spectrum utilization while reducing total cost of ownership of microwave networks.
