Beirut – May 26, 2017: Driven by ongoing innovation, open collaboration, and exceptional quality, Huawei Consumer Business Group is constantly investing in the future of innovation to create unique experiences and bolster its technological leadership. In light with this, Huawei announced its R&D investment to tap into two technology revolutions: intelligence and interaction. This step aims to drive the development of smart devices towards entirely reshaping consumer experiences.
Continued investment in innovation
Huawei believes that quality is a key to business success, and thus the company is constantly working not only to design great products, but also to create powerful experiences for its users. The increasing brand influence is mirrored by a steady growth, new product innovation and continued investment in R&D. As a testament, Huawei smartphones are loved and used in more than 170 countries and regions, thus cementing its position as one of the world’s top three players in the smartphone industry.
In 2016 alone, Huawei spent US$11 billion on research and development. To date, it has established 15 R&D institutes/centers and 36 joint innovation centers around the world, mainly in Europe, including Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Sweden, and the UK. Huawei also ranked as the world’s eighth-largest company in terms of R&D spending in 2016, according to EU Industrial R&D Investment Scoreboard.
Future ambitions and goals: Focusing on intelligence and interaction
Huawei is actively developing 5G, AI, VR/AR and other cutting-edge technologies to realize the wholesale improvement of intelligent device experience. The brand is aiming to strengthen its global presence and further develop a global high-end brand influence while continuing to invest in its channels and retail stores, improving brand marketing and services, and focusing on over 20 large influential markets including the Middle East.
Huawei is also teaming up with top global partners and focusing on significant digital-era innovations. This will allow the brand to continuously improve user experience across both basic and advanced functionalities, and to develop innovations for future intelligent products. To optimize the product experience, Huawei will continue to invest in quality, design, communication, battery life, audio and video, photography, and other areas. At the same time, Huawei will make good use of its technical advantages such as its proprietary operating system EMUI, its in-house chipset capabilities, artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and more.
Looking ahead, Huawei believes that the industry is entering the “+Intelligent” era, a new era of technological revolution. In the “+Intelligent” era, digitalization is speeding up dramatically enabling human perception to reach new heights, and humanizing the interaction between people and devices. The advent of artificial intelligence (AI) will bring smarter, more efficient ways of interacting with devices. By 2025, 90% of device users will benefit from the personalized and intelligent services of the Superphone. The radically improved user experience driven by AI will upend the core competencies of both device hardware and the cloud, which will be pushed more than ever by more demanding tasks. Huawei’s deep insight into chip technologies and cloud services position the company to deliver intelligent experiences for an intelligent age.
